Crane Engineering offers gate valves for on/off service in applications with high-suspended solids. Great for slurry, corrosive, and abrasive media.
A Knife gate valve is a valve that opens by lifting a barrier/gate in order to allow fluid flow. Knife gate valves require very little space, and when opened fully create no obstruction in the flow path. Knife gate valves are normally used to stop flow, not restrict it. These valves are typically used in larger pipes because of the low complexity of construction compared to other large valves. Knife gate valves are especially suitable for settings that involve dense material. The “knife” like a blade that is built into the gate uses its sharp edges to cut through tough and/or sticky substances. When under high pressure, friction can become a problem because of the strong flow of fluids. Therefore, these valves are more common in applications where minor leaking of the valve will not become an issue.
