Plunger pumps are a type of positive displacement pump in which a smooth cylindrical plunger slides back and forth through a stationary high-pressure seal. When the smooth cylinder moves back and forth, it sucks liquid in through an inlet valve and out through an outlet valve. This feature is what differentiates the piston and plunger pump and allows plunger pumps to operate at higher pressures.
