Foremost Farms USA
Floor Pitch Challenge
Foremost Farms USA is owned by some 3,600 dairy farmers in seven Midwestern states, mainly Wisconsin. The company is a major dairy cooperative in the US. From 20 plants the cooperative churns nearly 5 billion pounds of milk into solid and fluid dairy products for industrial, retail, and foodservice customers per year. The Foremost Farms plant in Rothschild, WI recently added drains in their feed dryer area to improve cleanability and sanitation. Following installation, they discovered they needed to pitch the floor to the new drains.
Crane Engineering solved Foremost Farms’ problem with a floor coating system that not only resolved the floor pitch challenge but also providing a durable coating for the floor. In addition, the work was completed on a weekend, which limited the customer’s downtime.
The floor was scarified to remove existing coatings and create a bonding profile. The base coat of the system consisted of a mesh reinforced flexible epoxy system to eliminate cracking from the vibration created by the dryers. Epoxy mortar was trowel applied to various thicknesses to fill low areas and create pitch to the drains. This was followed by 1/8” epoxy slurry and aggregate broadcast. An epoxy sealer was then applied to create a nonskid surface. |
